Landfall
TODO: Update to new locale format
An island steeped in history and covered by verdant canyons, raging waterfalls and deep mountain valleys. The Landfall Jungle is home to many species that are found nowhere else in the world. The Crab Mystics that call this island home are fierce in their defense of the jungle, a counterbalance to Orchid Bay’s insatiable hunger for precious lumber. The shipwrights, of course, bemoan the unreasonable demands and opaque rules imposed by the mystics.
Landmarks
Carver’s Lodge. Something between a wilderness outpost and an inn, maintained by a consortium of the shipwrights and merchant companies that operate in the Coral Circlet. This fortified compound on the coast of Landfall serves as a headquarters for their logging operations; without it, ships don’t get built. The Lodge also maintains the biggest permanent dock on the island, so most visitors to Landfall pass through it.
Tarnished Waygrove. A circle of gnarled of trees with silvery-brown leaves, deep enough into the Landfall Jungle that most visitors need a guide to make the journey safely. When the moon is full, those leaves shine in the moonlight and the way is opened to the Landfall Enclave. Many visitors bring treasures with them for the enclave to keep safe. Unfortunately, many bandits prowl the trails for the same reason.
Zephyr Village. Nestled in the forested cliffs of the Landfall Jungle, this remote village is home to a unique tradition of artisan weatherworkers, who specialise in creating objects and devices that harness the wind. They are most well-known for their skyjammers, which allow the village’s hunters to soar through the skies above the trackless jungle.
Notables
Back-and-Forth. A strider who loves the jungle more than he loves the enclave. He acts as a liaison between the Landfall Enclave and the Circlet, trading for what the striders need at Carver’s Lodge. He also guides visitors through the jungle, for a modest price. (Rough, Fair, Distant)
Bindweed. A songborn crab mystic who fancies herself something of an investigator. She has a suspicion that something underhanded is going on at Carver’s Lodge, and she’s made it her mission to find out what. She ask questions openly, but she’s also training her mite crabs to spy on Lapis’ officers for her. (Persistent, Suspicious, Reckless)
Lapis Rookstaff. The overseer of Carver’s Lodge, primarily responsible for supervising logging operations and negotiating with the crab mystics. Despite what you might expect, she’s honest and sympathetic to the crab mystics and their desire to protect the jungle. She’s unaware of the clandestine operations that take place under her nose, however. (Forthright, Trusting, Rigid)
Skyjammers
A skyjammer is a temperamental and fragile contraption made by the weatherworkers of Zephyr Village. Resembling a small mast and crossbar complete with a “sail” of enchanted canvas, they can be used to fly on the wind. However, they are delicate and sensitive devices, and they require great skill to use safely.
If you are not skilled in Skyjamming, trying to fly with a skyjammer always requires an untrained roll against the risk of crashing into an obstacle (or the ground). With training, you only need to roll when flying in adverse conditions, or when attempting a particularly daring maneuver. A skyjammer can never be used in places where there is no wind to catch, such as underground.
